29th January, 2011 briefing session for International Public Speaking Competition arranged by ESU, Bangladesh

Yesterday, 29th of January, ESU, Bangladesh arranged a briefing session for the interested participants at the International Public Speaking Competition 2011. The audience had representations from BRAC University, North-South University, Mastermind School, Cephalon School, State University of Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Institute of Military Studies (BIMS). The program was covered by two young journalists from Star Campus at The Daily Star.

Ms. Asma Ali, Member of Executive Committee ESU, Bangladesh, made the welcome speech and briefed about the history of ESU, Bangladesh chapter that was launched on 30th January, 2010. Ms. Ali dwelt briefly on the goals and missions of ESU and brought the whole idea of International Public Speaking Competition 2011 to the participants. Mizan, student of BIMS and who was one of the two finalists from Bangladesh who presented his speech in the UK in 2010, gave a well-dramatized description of his experience in public speaking and his visit to the UK in the summer of 2010. The third segment of the program was conducted by ESU Trainer for public speaking, Shahidul Mamun, Director, Prachyanat School of Acting and Design. 

Major General Jiban Kanai Das (Retd.), Secretary General of ESU, Bangladesh sends his best wishes to all the prospective competitors and has advised everyone to submit their ideas/outlines of their speech for the upcoming Regional Competition to be held on the 26th February, 2011. The submitted SPEECH-OUTLINE will be given feedback.

Announcement for the ESU Public Speaking Competition Orientation on Saturday 29th January 2011

ORGANISING INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION (IPSC) UNDER THE AUSPICES OF ENGLISH SPEAKING UNION (ESU) OF BANGLADESH

Dear Everyone,

1.        I have great pleasure in informing you that ESU International office has informed that they are going to organise International Public-Speaking Competition (IPSC) in London this year from 23-27 May 2011. Accordingly, ESU Bangladesh has decided to organise a national level competition. The theme of the 5-minute public speaking competition will be: Lessons for the Future. The speech will be followed by a 2-minute question and answer session.
2.        Based on the level of the competition and the number of participants, ESU Bangladesh will send TWO candidates to participate in the international event in London. Only the champion and the runner-up will be considered for the purpose. The eventual winners at the international event will receive the prizes from the HRH the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace in mid-November 2011.  Other details on it are:              
2.1.      Mentoring/Coaching cum Briefing Programme
2.1.1     It will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10 a.m. which will be conducted by Mr. Shahidul Mamun. It may last for about 2-3 hours.
2.1.2.    Venue: Democracywatch, 7 Circuit House Road, Ramna, Dhaka-1000 (near Habibullah Bahar College).
2.2.       Holding the National Level Competition of IPS 2011
2.2.1.   This will be a one-day event to be held on Saturday, 26 February 2011.  The programme will begin at 10 a. m. and may require 3-4 hours depending upon the number of participants.
2.2.2.  The detailed rules/procedure of conduct of the event will be covered during the briefing on January 29, (Saturday) 2011.
2.2.3.  Venue: Democracywatch, 7 Circuit House Road, Ramna, Dhaka-1000.
2.2.4.  The Participants will have to register their names by filling in appropriate ‘Registration Form’ sent along with this mail. The completed form (hard copy) will be sent to the following address by 15 February 2011:

3.         Special points for attention please:
3.1.      The competition is open to all Bangladeshi students aged between 16 and 20 years old, in full time education at the time of the competition (i.e. the oldest possible competitors would have their 21st birthday on the day after the competition-28 May 2011 and not earlier).
3.2.      The competitor will be spared by the institution s/he is now studying in order to participate in the international meet in London from 23-27 May, 2011.
